Ashish Dass, the Managing Director and Vice President of the South Asian Subcontinent at Infor was recently featured in an interview. We found the news exciting and wanted to share with our fellow partners and clients! Dass has been working hard to scale Infor’s business operations in India and drive the next level of innovation. He’s grown a high-performance sales team and network of partners with the goal of continuous, innovative phases of growth.

When you first meet Dass, it’s said that you immediately notice the natural friendliness he radiates, as he greets you with a warm smile and palms folded in a “Namaste.” The globetrotting business executive has been living on foreign shores for the past 25 years and has a strong love for Hindi and Indian culture. Dass is most passionate about India’s growth and how Infor’s presence in the country can be the next chapter in India’s growth story.

In an interview with The Economic Times, Ashish Dass discussed Infor’s strategy in India, how it’s positioned to have a competitive advantage, and the future plans.

One challenge many believe Dass will face is the fact that in India SAP has almost come to be synonymous with ERP. Dass understands that SAP is a successful ERP vendor, but he knows he has a separate niche in India. Dass knows where Infor’s niche market is and believes they will have a “very decent market share in these segments over the next three years.” He believes the people of India will soon talk about Infor as they talk about SAP but in a different area.

Dass has a great point, because Infor truly is a unique and strong ERP company, thanks in part to CEO Charles Phillips’ decision to take on a different approach when joining Infor. Statistics show that a great majority of ERP implementations fail simply because of lack of acceptance. Humans are drawn to applications that look beautiful and avoid things they simple don’t like and aren’t familiar with. Phillips decided to put a great deal of time and money into making Infor software look nice, and therefore it’s more often “accepted” by users. All Infor products have a Facebook kind of social media front, as Dass shares that Infor’s entire front end is very social media driven to appeal to users. Users are familiar with the social media feel of Infor applications, which is why users accept it quicker. Infor’s products are simple to use and make implementations faster.

In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and user friendly, Dass credits Infor’s Dynamic Science Labs staffed by MIT alumni for giving them the competitive advantage in India. Dass is proud of the fact that Infor makes sure that all business applications are beautiful and very scientific-driven and highly verticalized.

Currently, Infor has over 700 customers in India, compromised of businesses ranging from large conglomerates to emerging companies. As you can imagine, that leaves lots of room for growth. When asked about his growth strategy, Dass states that he’s taking on a three-pronged approach consisting of “new customer wins across multiple industries, a laser sharp focus on innovation to deliver purpose-build software for cloud, and a robust partner network will bolster Infor’s growth in India.”

Dass has been perceptive of the fact that India is growing at a fast rate, and that there are grassroots level changes happening in India right now. To change a big vehicle like India takes time- it is no simple task.

Globally, Infor is the third largest provider of enterprise application and services, however in India, Infor is not as prevalent. Previously, the company had limited focus on India, but now under Dass’ leadership they have a very strong focus on the region. The ultimate goal is to triple the revenue in three years’ time. To achieve this, Dass is leading efforts to hire on new people and put a strong structure in place in north, west and south India. The structure will allow Infor to spread to all 49 tier-two cities.

As an Infor Alliance Partner, we’re thrilled to hear about the growth plans Dass has invested in India. We look forward to hearing an update soon!
